Gender Pay Gap Report 2017 published

Today sees the publication of our Gender Pay Gap Report 2017.

The company is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion within its workforce and our report confirms that men and women are paid fairly for similar work.

However, as is the case across much of the construction industry, in which women represent just 13% of the workforce, we employ significantly more men than women.

And with men tending to stay longer in the sector than women, this means we have more men in senior roles at higher levels of pay. This opens up a gap in pay levels between men and women, resulting in a mean gender pay gap of 29.4%.

Whilst we are now seeing a stronger female presence within our business at senior levels, change isn’t happening quickly enough for us.

We are determined to do all we can to close the gender pay gap and have committed to an ambitious Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy to accelerate the pace of change.

Reflecting and supporting our core value of family, our EDI strategy is being delivered through a range of initiatives designed to encourage more women and under-represented groups into construction and provide them with career development and flexibility to retain them into the future.

Sir Robert McAlpine Chief Executive, Paul Hamer said:

"We are incredibly excited at the prospect of seeing our business become more diverse and inclusive over the coming years, and we are proactively facilitating that change at pace.

"Sir Robert McAlpine will become an industry leader for diversity and inclusion and I look forward to being part of the team that achieves this much-needed change, one which will have benefits to our sector for generations to come."
