NAW: Maisie Woods & apprentices at Agratas

Administration Apprentice, Maisie Woods, a resident of Bridgwater, is amongst the ten apprentices employed by Sir Robert McAlpine currently working at Agratas

We currently employ ten apprentices at our Agratas site, from Level 3 to Level 7, in a number of disciplines, including Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Data Analysis, and Leadership.

Following the recent momentous milestone of the steel frame completion, construction is ramping up on Building One at Agratas’ battery manufacturing facility.

We are the construction delivery partner on the multi-billion-pound project, which started in 2024 and will be the biggest battery making facility of its kind in the UK once operational.

At peak, approximately 1,600 people will be working on-site in positions which will span operations, maintenance, quality, technical, engineering, and logistics functions.

The project is also providing a plethora of opportunities for local young professionals seeking a route into full-time employment, including Administration Apprentice, Maisie Woods.

Maisie began her career journey by studying dance at college, but realised partway through her course it wasn’t the path she wanted to pursue. After completing some work experience in an administrative role, Maisie began exploring apprenticeships locally to her hometown of Bridgwater.

Thanks to the opportunities available through Sir Robert McAlpine, Maisie successfully applied for a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship and started in September 2025.

Maisie supports the site team with a range of administrative responsibilities while completing an online apprenticeship, which covers areas such as health and safety, communication and project management. Her on-the-ground experience is used as evidence towards her qualification, which she expects to complete within the next 18 months.

“I really enjoy learning while I’m working. I learn best by watching how other people do things and getting involved, so an apprenticeship suits me. Everyone was so welcoming when I joined and that really helps you settle in quickly,” Maisie said.

“Because I live locally, I’d always kept an eye on opportunities around Agratas and it’s nice to have something so close to home, which means I can stay locally while growing professionally. People in the area are genuinely interested in what we're building and what’s going on here.

“It’s been really exciting to see how much the project has grown since I started, even in just a few months.”

These opportunities for those living locally are available across several roles and disciplines, and also extend to our supply chain partners.

Toureen, the site’s groundwork and drainage contractor, currently has three Site Engineer Apprentices on the project – one of those is Abdullah Alshawi (pictured right), who resides in nearby Woolavington and is combining his role as Assistant Site Engineer while studying for an apprenticeship.

Abdullah said: “I’ve really enjoyed working here so far, I’ve learned a lot in a short space of time and the variety of work on site has been brilliant. The team have been very supportive, and it’s been a great experience getting involved in groundworks packages and day-to-day site operations.”
