Innovation and sustainability at Three Chamberlain Square

Three Chamberlain Square, part of the Paradise development in Birmingham, features in a Construction News article focusing on innovation and sustainable construction.

Technical complexity and sustainable solutions at Three Chamberlain Square

The transformative Paradise development in Birmingham is setting new benchmarks for urban construction, and at its core stands the impressive Three Chamberlain Square. This 10-storey, 42-meter-tall office building represents a leap forward in sustainable construction and innovation.

Set to be completed this year, Three Chamberlain Square is the first office building in the West Midlands designed to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating, marking a significant milestone in the region's commitment to environmental responsibility. Developed for MEPC, the building will offer 17,500 square meters of Grade A office space, positioning Birmingham as a hub for dynamic and sustainable growth.

The construction of Three Chamberlain Square has involved tackling technical complexities with precision. Notable innovations include the use of no-pile foundations, a method that minimises environmental impact while maintaining structural integrity. Additionally, post-tensioned concrete has been employed in both the slabs and critical frame elements, enhancing the building’s efficiency and durability. The building’s distinctive terracotta façade showcases expert craftsmanship, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and functional performance.

Integral to the success of this project has been the use of advanced equipment, such as the Alimak Mammoth TM 55/50 hoist. With a capacity of 4,000kg and spacious dimensions, this hoist has streamlined the transport of materials and personnel, ensuring a seamless construction process.

The Paradise development, which includes Three Chamberlain Square, is a cornerstone initiative reshaping Birmingham’s city centre. By blending office, retail, and leisure spaces, the project aims to create a vibrant and inclusive environment for both residents and visitors, with significant economic benefits, including the attraction of new businesses and job opportunities.

In addition to Three Chamberlain Square, our team is also proud to have contributed to the development of One Centenary Way, a 13-storey, 280,000 square foot commercial building. This development, which offers a mix of office and leisure spaces, further enhances the transformative impact of the Paradise scheme.

A recent project report by Colin Marrs, published in Construction News, highlights the innovative strategies employed at Three Chamberlain Square. From sustainable design to advanced construction techniques, the article offers an insightful look at the challenges and triumphs that define the project, underscoring the dedication and ingenuity behind the landmark development.
