A more rewarding place to work

We’re proud of the industry-leading benefits we offer our people and it’s an area we keep looking to improve on as part of our aspiration to become the best place to work.

When we decided, a couple of years ago, to take a fresh look at the variety of reward and recognition benefits we offer, the obvious thing to do was ask our people what would make the most difference to them.

We held a series of workshops across the business, involving hundreds of our colleagues, to listen to what they had to say.

We knew that different kinds of benefits would be important to different individuals, and their input really helped shape our reward and recognition offering, putting our people, their families and ‘time’ front and centre.

Our aim was to treat everybody as an individual and make sure there was something for everyone.

Since then, we’ve introduced and improved a range of benefits, including those below with more to be added soon.

  • Industry first gender neutral family leave, giving parents 26 weeks’ paid leave however they identify
  • Enhanced holidays
  • A holiday purchase scheme
  • Carer leave
  • Agile and flexible working from day one
  • A sabbatical bank allowing people to build up time off and take extended paid leave
  • Additional healthcare support

We’ve also introduced an electric car lease scheme which supports our people to make the transition to electric vehicles.

We've created a dedicated employee benefits platform called SRM Reward Hub. A one-stop-shop for benefits and recognition, the  hub also gives our people discounts at literally hundreds of high street retailers, so they can save on everything from their weekly shop to nights out, DIY shopping and holidays.

The savings can really add up. In fact, since launching SRM Reward Hub, 98% of our people have signed up to the platform. They spend more than £1m being every year, saving around £70k annually.

Not only that, our people now also benefit from instant monetary awards through the hub at the discretion of their line manager, and can take advantage of other money saving schemes like SmartTech, which offers discounts on the latest new technology. There is also the chance to send and receive recognition cards for a job well done, a great piece of teamwork, or to thank someone for going the extra mile.

All in all, it’s quite the offering. But we’re not quite finished yet, with lots more ideas currently under consideration.

All of which will mean working at Sir Robert McAlpine is even more rewarding.

We’ll be throwing the spotlight on some of the people who are enjoying the benefits of working for a family-focused construction company over the weeks and months ahead. So watch this space!
