Proud member of 'The 5% Club'

We are proud to have joined The 5% Club, an industry led initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.

The 5% Club is a movement of more than 700 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers.

5% Club logoBy joining The 5% Club, we have committed to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of our total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report & Accounts. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover a number of diverse industries, from engineering through to the legal sector.

We are very excited to have joined The 5% Club and to work alongside other forward-thinking organisations in contributing to the country’s growth agenda through providing young people with the opportunities and support to develop their careers and fully achieve their potential.

We run a successful Graduate Development programme with a yearly intake of approximately twenty young people covering a range of disciplines. Our ever-increasing apprenticeship provision is providing fantastic career pathways to young people through a variety of professions starting at Level 2, with progression opportunities through to Level 7 available for all who wish to further develop their skills and knowledge.

Providing opportunities for our people to ‘earn and learn’ and developing emerging talent has been a core focus for us for many years. During our 150th year anniversary in 2019, we committed to support 150 apprentices and surpassed that target!

Gill Cronin, Director of Operations of The 5% Club said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Sir Robert McAlpine into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR professionals, sharing and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.”

Through our eprovision, we provide young people with a variety of insights and career opportunities ranging from work experience through to Degree apprenticeships and Graduate development programmes.

We are continuously improving our offer and aspire to be the employer of choice. We will be working collaboratively with our supply chain to increase accessibility and opportunity to careers in construction for those who are either exploring their options or looking for the next step in their careers. We are looking forward to working with The 5% Club to make our aspirations a reality.
