Sir Robert McAlpine is proud to sponsor CECA Aging Assets 2024, a free one-day conference at Aerospace Bristol on 24 October. Join government and industry leaders to explore the maintenance and renewal of the UK’s aging infrastructure.
Sir Robert McAlpine is proud to sponsor the CECA Aging Assets 2024 Conference, where leading voices from government, industry, contractors, and suppliers will converge to address the critical issues surrounding the maintenance and renewal of the UK's aging infrastructure assets.
The event, hosted at Aerospace Bristol on 24 October, will feature a keynote message from Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister of Roads and Local Transport, and the launch of a new collaborative Aging Assets community, aimed at tackling the challenges of managing assets beyond their intended design life.
Tony Gates, Executive Managing Director, Infrastructure at Sir Robert McAlpine, will be joining a panel discussion focused on the impact of aging infrastructure on safety, the economy, and the environment. Tony’s extensive experience and unique perspectives will offer valuable insights into effectively managing and renewing aging assets.
A large part of the UK’s infrastructure asset base is operating well beyond its anticipated lifecycle or is unable to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Regular maintenance, driven by innovation, has delivered much-lauded cost and environmental savings. However, such an approach can only go so far. The challenges of climate change, combined with reduced public spending, have highlighted weaknesses that impact the UK public on a near-daily basis.
With potholes increasing on our roads, regular delays to rail travel due to asset failure, and broadband services not meeting modern-day requirements, the UK is at a pivotal point. Governments are seeking to meet public needs while ensuring reliable energy and water supply.
Maintaining the status quo is not an option. UK policy-making needs a radical approach to deliver the world-class infrastructure necessary for modern life and work. Aging Assets 2024 aims to address the challenges faced by national and local governments and their delivery bodies and find solutions to serve our society better.

The conference will focus on the challenges and solutions related to aging infrastructure in the civil engineering sector. The agenda includes the following key sessions:
Tony is Executive Managing Director for our Infrastructure team, leading projects since 2017. Our work in the sector includes delivering the C1 package for HS2 through our Align joint ventre, project for National Highways through our AmeySRM joint venture, the Sellafield PPP framework, and DBFO road maintenance. Tony has international experience across sectors such as Highways, Rail, Nuclear, and Defence. He also holds advisory and volunteer roles at InTouch, LCI-UK, the New Civil Engineer Editorial Advisory Board, and Project 13's Supplier Community.
Our Infrastructure team used innovative engineering on the A533 Expressway Bridge Replacement project, where a new 67m two-span concrete bridge was constructed to replace the aging structure over the M56 in Cheshire. This project not only ensures a vital connection for local communities but also showcases cutting-edge techniques to minimize disruption and enhance safety. Learn how the team at Sir Robert McAlpine, in collaboration with National Highways, delivered this complex project efficiently and effectively.
Sir Robert McAlpine is proud to be headline sponsor of Smart Construction 2024 on 22nd October at Newcastle University’s Catalyst Building, showcasing the latest in digital, sustainable, and modern construction innovations.
Join us at the MAD World Summit 2024 in London, where Karen Brookes will discuss the future of workplace flexibility, health, and productivity in the construction industry.
We are pleased to announce that our "Forum 10 Years On" project has been shortlisted in the Building Resilience category at the Education Estates® Awards.
