When built, this plant was one of the largest wafer fabrication facilities ever constructed in Europe.
We employed the highest quality cleanroom construction techniques on this project to provide a Wafer Fabrication Module for Siemens.
Built on a design, manage and construct basis, the scheme included a support building containing cleanroom areas, a utilities block, numerous ancillary buildings including a gas farm, specialist chemical store and a 15,000m2 office development.
The Wafer Fabrication Module features an innovative curved roof formed from continuous aluminium sheets. At 54m, the roofing sheets were the longest ever used in the UK at the time. The roof space acts as the plenum for the air handling system and the continuous roofing was used to reduce joints and improve air tightness.
To prevent vibration, the cleanroom floor is supported by an entablature created from a highly engineered steel framework - a pioneering alternative to concrete.
We installed the process-related systems, including chemicals and special gases, and managed the entire hook-up operation.
We have constructed many of the UK’s semiconductor facilities. Our experience in this sector includes:
Expansion of the NEC Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility at Livingston. Completed in 13 months this project was more than twice the size of any equivalent development attempted in the UK.
Fujitsu Microelectronics Facility in Newton Aycliffe and its subsequent fit-out for Filtronic.
The third and most extensive phase of the Shin-Etsu Handotai Europe Wafer Fabrication Facility in Livingston.
We have also undertaken many contracts for Motorola at its South Queensferry and East Kilbride plants.
