INDUSTY RESEARCH & COLLABORATION

To help drive knowledge sharing and innovation, we are an active participant in a number of key organisations, and support research in important fields within the construction Industry.

Research:

Natural Capital – Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) enables impacts on our environment to be assessed on the same terms and using the same language as financial capital and can be successfully used to engage clients and designers on the importance of sustainable decision making. We have partnered with clients and consultants to use NCA on projects to prove the value of sustainable design. Click here to find our more.

Socio-Economic and Placemaking Studies – It is important to calculate the social impact that our projects have on local communities, and the benefits that they bring. We continue to lead in this area, with one example being our study on the impact of our City of Glasgow College project. Click here to find our more.

Addressing the skills gap – We encourage our staff to tackle the problems faced by the industry. A recent CIOB scholar conducted a detailed study on Construction as a Career of Choice for Young People. The research can be found here.

Collaboration:

We are committed to working with our industry peers to improve the sustainability performance of the sector through sharing learning and best practice.

We are an active member of a number of organisations and industry bodies which work to address the key issues that we face as an industry.

These include:

  • UK Green Building Council:
We are a founding member and a Leadership Strategic Partner at the UK-GBC.
  • Supply Chain Sustainability School:
We are a founding partner of the school, and actively participate, having representation on the board, as well as participating in a number of user groups.
  • CIRIA:
We are a member of CIRIA with representation at board level. We also sponsor the CIRIA BIG Biodiversity Awards.
  • Sir Simon Milton Westminster University Technical College (UTC):
We are committed to encouraging more young people to take up careers in construction and recognise the vital role UTC's have to play. As a partner of Westminster UTC we are working to create a learning environment where STEM subjects are made relevant by applying them to real projects.
